RED DAWNS are inviting to the Red Cycle in Black Theatre

to a documentary film WE CANNOT GO THERE NOW, MY DEAR by director Carol Mansour on Sunday 15th November at 8pm at Živko Skovtec. The documentary tells a piece of a story of Palestinian refugees being refugees twice over.
The screening will be followed by a discussion.
At the event we will be collecting contributions to support the refugees!

Red cycle is a set of feminist and queer off-festival events by the Red Dawns collective. This time we’re announcing a concert of an American singer-songwriter CALVIN JOHNSON, one of the co-founders of the legendary K Records and a member of Beat Happening. This will be his first time performing in Slovenia. The concert evening will be opened by the Austrian band LIME CRUSH, who was influenced by both DIY punk and riot grrrl ethos.

Open calls for Red Dawns Festival 2016

Marking its 17th year, the International Feminist and Queer Festival Red Dawns will take place at various venues of AKC Metelkova Mesto and elsewhere in the beginning of March 2016. We are announcing an open call for artists and volunteers.

Submission deadline: 6 September 2015

Open call for performers, artists, academics, activists
Performers, visual artists, musicians, theoretics, activists, researchers and collectives, whose work explores issues of the body, gender identity and sexuality, are invited to participate in the festival. Feminist and queer views on other axes of difference and aspirations for social justice are also welcome. Priority will be given especially to aspiring artists. Proposals should include a brief description and content of the project and its technical requirements, as well as the applicant’s CV. The document should contain no more than 1000 words!

They can be submitted by e-mail: rdece.zore@gmail.com (Subject: Application 2016). The selection of participants will be final by the end of 2015. The selected proposals will be realised at our best – considering the available funds and equipment.

If you wish to gain experience in organizing a festival, actively participate in the programme-making and promotion, interact with the festival participants and get a deeper insight into feminist and queer topics, write to: rdece.zore@gmail.com (Subject: Cooperation 2016).

Red cycle: DES ARK (USA) & Benchwarmers (CRO)

Red cycle is a set of feminist and queer off-festival events by the Red Dawns collective. This time we’re announcing a concert of American band DES ARK, which will perform in Ljubljana for the third time, but in a new formation. Singer-songwriter Aimée Collet Argote, who is the main driving force behind Des Ark, will be joined on stage by the guitarist Taylor Holenbeck, also a member of the band Appleseed Cast. The concert evening will be opened by the Croatian indie rockers BENCHWARMERS.

The team of feminist and queer festival Red Dawns is now working at full speed for preparation of the 16th edition of the festival, which will take place between 5-8th of March, 2015. You can express your support for the festival on Carnival Night with your attendance at the benefit where you can show to others: new radiating haircuts, new political belief, unstable sexual identity, hidden relations with the opposite or same gender or indispensable sense for disco choreography! This years’ carnival theme: (in)famous couples and collectives. Weetsch nas boo, prhey bhomo nah tzheelyhuu!

Caraoke: Traditional carnival benefit will be once again moderated and performed by Meta! It’s you who and your listeners who will be having fun the most!

Music: SVEMIR MANGO in free and trapped time s/he is a Russian scientist. Carnival Tuesday is her/his favorite time of the year when s/he can do identity experiments. When s/he dances it’s for real and when s/he does it so cordial and to all the music of the world.
