Presentation, discussion and networking – “Women building for women”: Olga Boldcrayon (PL)

The presentation will be based on Olga Boldcrayon’s experience of working with natural building materials on various projects in Europe, and it will be rich with images presenting the most popular building techniques. The focus will be on the practical aspects of building, rather than on its aesthetics. Technical questions will be addressed, although expect a DIY level of sophistication – not professional architectural expertise. You will get a grasp of the materials used in natural building, and some basic patterns and rules behind it.

After the presentation about natural building techniques, there will be a brief presentation of the “Women building for women” operation in the context of natural building, as well as an open discussion, which will depend on participants’ topics of interest. The proposed topics include:

– a homogenic learning environment in the areas overpopulated by one sex,

– a solitary retreat for women – qualities of space or stigma, and the context of solitude for women,

– ideas, suggestions and doubts.

Since similarly minded people will end up in the same room, we will also have some time to exchange contacts and make friends.

At the age of 22, Olga Boldcrayon dropped psychology studies and started a slow-paced chain of relocations around Southern Europe. She did her share of random physical work on eco farms, as well as conduct workshops and make films for charities. She came to Slovenia and started teaching permaculture under the mentorship of Association for Permaculture Slovenia. Currently, she is studying film editing at the AGRFT.

During her unrestrained years, she had an opportunity to spend a lot of time on her own in isolated places in nature. That experience was by far the most important one in her life, and she wholeheartedly believes that it is a birthright of every person to experience solitude in a safe and pleasant environment, which can have an enormous impact on one’s life. Another wonderful experience she had was building shelters of clay and straw. She enjoyed not only the physical sensation of working with the elements, but the whole process of creating something tangible together with other people. Those moments merged in the idea and project called “Women building for women”.

In the English and Slovene language.
