Debate: Trans* – from personal to social
Despite queer theory, plenty of literature and manuals as well as public coming-outs of trans people in the world, transgender people in Slovenia are still met with insignificant social and political recognition. Even though transgender topics have been appearing more and more in activist as well as in wider public discourses, the T in LGBT acronym often stays just a letter. How do trans persons experience this, and how very literally do they live the phrase the personal is political? How do the appearances of trans initiatives and publicly exposed trans persons affect the wider visibility of trans people? What part do artistic manifestations play in these kinds of topics, and how far do they reach? We will talk about this with Andrea Celija (SI), Anja Koletnik (SI), Axel (CRO), Eva Matarranz (E) and Salome (SI). Anja Koletnik is a non-binary person and a trans feminist, with an MA in Gender Studies, who lives by the slogan ‘the personal is political’. They are employed in DIC Legebitra and, in 2014, they established a trans-feminist initiative TransAkcija (TransAction), the first trans-specific initiative in Slovenia. Andrea Celija is a sociologist, whose first short documentary »Janez« was awarded as the best Slovenian short film with GLB topic on the 28th Ljubljana Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. She is currently working at DZPM Krško (Luksuz production). Axel Grgorić is living and working in Pula. She is in the process of sex-change. Eva Matarranz studied film techniques. She has been living in Slovenia since 2010, where she is working at DZMP – Luksuz production, and on various projects of media education. Salome is the most famous and the first openly out trans person in Slovenia, where she reigned on the stage of K4 as a versatile show business person. She also published her personal story in the book New Birth (2009), and performed in reality shows, such as Big Brother and the Farm of the Famous (Kmetija slavnih). In the Slovene, English and Croatian language. Co-organization: ŠKUC – Cultural centre Q (Club Tiffany) Free Entrance |
