The “Between two fires” performance is a product of collective authorship in which the performers used the theater of the oppressed techniques and weaved a mosaic of narratives about intersexual and interpersonal relations through addressing their personal stories, experience and feelings.

The informal group’s ZIZ work is based on the theater of the oppressed paradigm with focus on topics such as sex inequality, identity in modern society and interpersonal relations, and is always driven by sharing of personal experience, views and feelings. After few shows were executed the performers began stressing that only one part of the creative process relied on the theater of the oppressed and some other techniques while the performance itself offers an intimate showcase, a live formation, a “live theatre”. The staging is indeed always different – every next performance the actors change the script. Their perceptions and reflections of the scenes are actually completely personal thus the scenes grow and evolve together with the performers.

The theater of the oppressed is a theatrical-activist method developed in the sixties by a Brazilian named Augusto Boal. It is also known as theater of empowerment and theater of life and as such it is not intended only for artistic expression. It also serves as a tool for informal learning, education and activism, and can have therapeutic effects.
