Debate: Another Sport is Possible?! Feminism, Queer and Trans in Sports
The debate with Željko Blaće (Croatia), Olga Dimitrijević (Serbia), Juliet Jacques (Great Britain) and Clémence Zamora Cruz (France) will revolve around the issues of feminist, queer and transgender engagements with sports, and with the potential for possible future changes in the area. Juliet Jacques is a freelance writer who has appeared in The Guardian, The New Statesman, TimeOut, The London Review of Books, Cineaste, 3:AM and other journals. She writes on literature, film, gender, sexuality and football. Her Transgender Journey series for The Guardian was shortlisted for the Orwell Prize in 2011. She is also a co-founder of The Justin Campaign against anti-LGBTQ* prejudices in football. Olga Dimitrijević was born in Belgrade in 1984. She studied drama and received an MA in Gender Studies in Budapest. She works as a theatre critic, drama writer, and a journalist. She is the author of several staged dramas, and occasionaly lectures on film, homosexuality and female vampires. In 2012, she received the “Sterija“ award for her text “Workers Die Singing”. Clémence Zamora Cruz is a transfeminist activist of Mexican origin and French nationality and has worked for many years for the rights of the LGBTI community in France. She was Vice President of the Les Myriades Transs Association. Currently, she is Inter-LGBT spokesperson of transgender Affairs (Interassociative Lesbienne, Gaie, Bi et Trans is an umbrella group of more than 60 organizations in France). She is Acceptess-T spokesperson too and is part of the fight against discrimination by the Paris International Tournament (by FSGL), working on the issue of the integration of trans people. Željko Blaće works in the area of digital arts and media culture at Multimedia Institute in Zagreb (since 1999, a co-founder) and at international media art events and exhibitions. As a visual/media artist, he has organized several conferences, seminars and workshops on the ne media. He also worked as a design researcher at Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht. Since 2006, his research interests mostly include cumulative creativity and the queering / de-normalization of sports. In English.
