Bring In Take Out Living Archive

The Bring In Take Out Living Archive (LA) takes and uses artistic, creative and research means and their intersecting strategies to create a contemporary art exhibition, laboratory and public archive aimed at emancipation within the social and cultural memory of women artists and feminist art in the post/Yugoslav space and beyond.

The 2nd Living Archive edition in Ljubljana is focused on creating an interactive contemporary art platform and on different archiving methodologies. We continue our discussion on some of the most pressing issues such as mapping the feminist practices in the contemporary art, processes of generating, producing and mediating feminist knowledge in the post/Yugoslav space, especially in the queer and feminist grass-root context and in relation towards the politics of representation of marginalized groups.

LA activities in Ljubljana include: LA exhibition lab with live interviews, artist’s talks and tools to analyze the on-line questionnaire and digitalize material on the spot; LA exhibition in Alkatraz Gallery with Vesne Bukovec (SLO), Perpetuum Mobile Video Archive and Documentary Embroidery by Vahida Ramujkić (Belgrad) and Aviv Kruglansky (Barcelona); LA exhibition and a collective reading from the archive of migrant women as part of Margareta Kern’s (London) exhibition GUESTures in Kapelica Gallery; presentation of journals ProFemina and Uz)bu))na))) with Jelena Petrović, Ana Vilenica and Tanja Marković (all from Belgrade), entitled Combative Women’s Celebration: Feminism as Politics of Equality for All; a public discussion (Creating a Feminist Archive Means Facing the Real to the Most Extent) with Biljana Kašić (HR), Karen Mirza (UK), Ida Hiršenfelder (SLO) and LA Ljubljana participating artists and curators; and a special closing day edition of the LA Exhibition Lab in Alkatraz Gallery.

Vesna Bukovec (SLO): Do You Not Want Me, Because I’m Critical and How To Fail Successfully

In the series of drawings How To Fail Successfully, Vesna Bukovec deals with the failure of individuals in society that implies indirect violence with absolute values such as success, health and happiness in the fashion of a Do-It-Yourself manual. In the new series of drawings, through the cliché images of women taken from Web “stock-image” files used by media and advertisers, she depicts social marginalisation. Even if it is all about stereotypes, the presented situations are still so real. This series was inspired by the Tinza comics by Marko Pogačnik, published in the journal Problems in 1969.

Vesna Bukovec (SLO) works as a solo artist as well as in the art group KOLEKTIVA (with Metka Zupanič and Lada Cerar). In recent years, she has presented her works at numerous solo and group exhibitions in Ljubljana, Maribor, Slovenj Gradec, Novo Mesto, Ribnica, Zagreb, Belgrade, Athens, Berlin, Beijing, Graz, Vienna, New York, Verona, Venice … Her artistic work finds its expression in a variety of media (drawing, video, photography, installation) and approaches (research, appropriation, participation, etc.), with irony being a frequently used artistic strategy.

Perpetuum Mobile Video Archive

The Perpetuum Mobile Video Archive is part of the Bring In Take Out LA project. It is constantly growing on the basis of an open call and sharing. It takes on different forms of representation such as the video station at which viewers can pick any work and screen it, and as a computer based archive. At the moment, Perpetuum Mobile contains video works by the following artists: Milica Tomić, Ana Hoffner, Tina Smrekar, Lana Čmajčanin, Adela Jušić, Nela Hasanbegović, Nika Autor, Dina Rončević, Ana Hušman, Vahida Ramujkić, Bojana Jelenić, Nataša Teofilović, Marina Radulj and Monika Ponjavić. Perpertuum mobile also contains texts by Dunja Blažević, text and foto documentation by Alenka Spacal, photo documentaion by Nela Milić, video stills by Marina Gržinić and Aina Šmid, digital photos by Jelena Jureša, and a web browser video by Lina Dokuzović.

With Perpetuum Mobile and with the on-line questionnaire, the Red Min(e)d curatorial collective is working towards an open and ongoing archive of feminist art from the (post as well as trans) Yugoslav region and beyond.
