PROGRAM DAY II Saturday, 8 March 2025, at 8 pm Lučka Centa: ved ́ma
ved ́ma is an ancient witch of Slavic pagans, who lives on the outskirts of civilization. She is an everyday woman, with wild hair and sunken, red eyes, in which an inverted image of the world is reflected. She simultaneously gazes into life and death, as she draws her blood directly from the earth. Caught in the conflicts of patriarchy, she remains wild, rebellious and untamable. She loves the wild and belongs freely. Ved’ma, above all, trusts herself – she is the embodiment of a self that knows no fear. The performance explores the intimate self-image of a woman who feels a deep alliance and love for the environment, but rejects the outdated definition of a witch as a grotesque, mystical old woman. Through the ecofeminist perspective of a modern woman, she reimagines this archetype – not as a monstrous outcast, but as one who, through her connection with the environment, weaves resistance to patriarchy. And yes, she plots a revolution during her meetings with the forest. In harsh red light, a pile of earth lies before us, under which a woman lies, caught in an erotic, transparent web. Her body slowly merges with a bundle of branches, composed of the remains of a bare-rooted tree on Grajski grič, and in movement she explores the intertwining of matter and bodies. Lučka Centa (1996) is an intermedia artist whose work intertwines performance, photography and video, as well as installation. In 2021, she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at the Complutense University in Madrid, where she researched artistic production within natural, non-urban spaces with the aim of understanding the relationship between humans and nature. In her work, she focuses on the exploration of interspecies interdependencies, environmental perception, human impact on nature, and the social valuation of different bodies and entities. As a graduate of the Master’s degree in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design at the University of Ljubljana, she focuses on the materialization of performative practice with the idea that the body is a bridge that bridges the gap between the natural and the social.
