Revoltaža is a cycle of electronic audio-visual events, blurring the lines and changing skirts and pants into mere pieces of fabric. In 1429, Joan of Arc was the first woman to go down in history by wearing pants. Dressed as a man, she fought at the head of the French army of King Charles VII but was burned at the stake after a sham trial by the pro-English clergy. In the 19th century, women sitting in coffee shops, smoking, taking up men’s occupations, fighting for equality and, on top of everything, wearing pants, were labelled as butch, wishing to compete with men. The well-known Slovenian attorney and writer Dr. Ljuba Prenner was allowed to wear pants only after World War Two. In 1970, women MPs were still forbidden to enter the German parliament if they were not wearing skirts. Pants are a historical symbol of the framed binary gender division, the transgressing of which encounters fierce resistance from the fighters for the first and the second sex, time and time again.
