Only YES means YES – to redefine the crime of rape and read stories #metoo The objective of the Inštitut 8. marec (8th of March Institute) is an investigation of diverse forms of societal subordination, wherein the current social situation is studied primarily through an analysis of the field of action of neoconservative movements and the practices that they employ therein. The main theoretical bases it relies on to do so are a critique of political economy and feminist theory. The institute aims to challenge neoconservatism by not only investigating specific agents, such as civic society movements and political parties, but also by organising concrete actions, the aim of which is twofold: the shutdown of the neoconservative counter-revolution and the establishment of a space and of conditions where new emancipatory practices can be conducted. In Slovenia, both experts in the field and the general public have drawn attention to the problem of the definition of the crime of rape, which many consider as not properly regulated in our Criminal Code. This opinion is also shared by Red Dawns and the representatives of Inštitut 8. marec. On Wednesday, February 17, the 60-day deadline for collecting 5,000 certified signatures – needed by Inštitut 8. marec to submit the bill they have drafted – has begun. They propose an amendment to the article on the crime of rape and sexual violence, currently based on the model of coercion, which is not legally rape unless the perpetrator uses force. At the event, we will talk to members of the Inštitut 8. marec about why they think legal changes are necessary, what was the path to submitting the bill and how we can support them. The event will be available through the Red Dawns social channels.
