Ženska sekcija Theremidi Orchestra Women’s Section of Theremidi Orchestra (SLO) @ Menza pri koritu Red Dawns and Menza pri koritu presentConcertWomen’s Section of Theremidi Orchestra (SLO)The female section Theremidi Orchestra is, for Red Dawns festival, preparing a tribute to the female composers of electronic music from the 1950s and 60s, such as Daphne Oram, Delia Derbyshire, Else Marie Pade, Eliane Radigue. Theremidi is believed to be one of the oldest electronic music instruments, and, most probably, the only one which is possible to be played at without touching it. It emerged in the 1920s as a byproduct of radio invention, and is, essentially, when connected to the computer, a developed form of the elementary sensory circuits. Theremidi Orchestra was formed approximately a year ago by the participants of a workshop on Theremidi, organized by Ljudmila. It is an audio-video orchestra, producing both images and all kinds of noisy sounds. Their goal, however, is not the audio-video performans, but activist, socially critical, and feminist do-it-yourself ethics. They recycle useless objects and transform them into antennas, which enable them to explore electro-magnetic fields towards the production of sounds, which contradict the clean, polished, and hegemonic mainstream sounds. The female section of Theremidi Orchestra is continuing the work of the original group, which has, up to date, performed twelve times at different festivals, workshops, and events. The female section wants to expose female representatives of the group, so that they would not be overlooked and forgotten in today’s times of high technology. The female section of Theremidi Orchestra has already performed in October 2012 in Kiberpipa, on the day of Ada Lovelace – the (female) pioneer in computer programming.
