Marie Dion (Palestine / Israel): In Your Image

Marie Dion has experienced the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory, which has been going on for more than forty years, firsthand. In the triptych of self-portraits entitled In Your Image, she is literally put up against the wall: the metaphor for Israeli militarism, which subordinates women to patriarchal ideas about women’s social servitude and femininity. The photographs were taken in front of an abandoned Palestinian house near her former home.

Marie Dion is a photographer, migrant, lesbian, feminist, activist and one of the founding members of the FORA organization promoting political awareness among Russian migrants. The In Your Image triptych was first exhibited in the feminist centre Isha L’Isha in Haifa. At the Red Dawns Festival, she will be displaying her works in a public space, characterised by another kind of border: between private profit-driven interests and the politics of alternative communities (Autonomous Cultural Center Metelkova mesto).

On Friday, March 11th at 19.00 in A-Infoshop, Marie Dion will be holding a lecture on feminist and anti-occupation activism in Haifa.

No entrance fee.
