From the back of the room

Documentary film screening: Amy Oden (USA): From the Back of the Room (2011, 105′)

The documentary film is a tribute to punk feminism. It highlights women’s involvement and gender-related obstacles within the American DIY punk scene, focusing on riot grrrl and other punk subgenres. It features interviews with more than thirty women, who have been involved within the punk scene, whether as musicians, concert and festival organisers, zine writers or members of various punk collectives. The interviewees (including band members of Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, Blatz, Bratmobile, Kylesa, Tribe 8, and the anarchist collective CrimethInc.) speak of their first-hand experience within the supposedly egalitarian punk scene.
