Becca ‘Ben’ Carbery (UK): Get in Touch with Your Masculine Side!

The intention of the workshop is to examine the fluidity of gender and to deviate from the social construction of a “woman”. Rather that proposing the possibility of “freely” passing between the sexes, we are going to question what is considered as naturally given. In the course of constructing another identity, one instantly sees other ways of being; the participants are going to discover how to “create” a new identity by focusing on physical appearance itself, as well as on body language, mode of communication and personality traits. The workshop is interactive and favours an individual approach. Upon agreement, the workshop can finish with an informal public catwalk performance.

Becca Carbery (UK) gained her MA in Photography/Gender Studies at the University of Durham. Her fields of work are visual culture, gender studies/queer theory and new media technologies.

Please, bring your own eye-liner, scissors, a packy (a pair of socks), “masculine” clothes and “masculine” shoes. Participants with breasts are asked to bring a sports bra as well.
