Maybecybors

Maybecybors is a music project by a Berliner, whose alter ego goes by the name Dramaqueen Ronetta Van Hell. Maybecyborgs’ gigs are a mixture of music and performance, since he toys with gender roles subversion through the use of colourful wigs, tight glittering clothing and painted nails. Even the music itself could be labelled as subversive, since it cannot be placed into any single music genre. Through the lo-fi, screaming and melodic vocals, electric guitar and plastic drums, the melodies shift between weird pop, psychedelic electronics and experimental queerpunk. The inspiration for the artist’s debut Pink on Green (2012) and its continuation come from feminism, queer topics and DIY punk ethics.

LIINES

The English post-punk trio LIINES, until the end of 2013 known as (hooker), is composed of Zoe McVeigh on vocals and guitar, Steph Angel on bass guitar and Leila O’Sullivan on drums. The trio hails from Manchester, famous for its rich music tradition, as it has been the home of The Smiths, New Order/Joy Division, Oasis and many others. However, the LIINES’ sound differs from the melancholia of their Manchester alternative rock predecessors; their music is danceable, dynamic, yet raw and emotional. In combination with the vocals, the latter reminds one of PJ Harvey or Sleater-Kinney, while the energetic rhythm section and guitar riffs sound somewhat like the dance grooves of Gossip or The Rapture. Their disco-punk melodies have impressed many listeners, since (hooker) won first place in the 2009 ‘The Next Big Thing’ music competition, which was in search of new up-and-coming names in music. In 2011, their track ‘Dance to the Beat of a Lonely Heart’ made it to the finals of ‘YouBloom Song Contest/Music Awards’ and took 5th place. The band has mostly performed throughout Great Britain, Germany, The Netherlands and Spain, having supported enviable bands such as Interpol, The Slits, Le Tigre and Gossip. In late October, they began recording their second EP, the follow-up to Dance to the Beat of a Lonely Heart from 2011.
