Danijela Zajc: An Atempt at a Room

Danijela Zajc: An Atempt at a Room

Tuesday, 20 June at 6 pm

Park Špica

1000 Ljubljana

The contemporary circus performance An Attempt at a Room (slo. Poskus sobe) was inspired by the life and poetry of the controversial Russian poet, writer and playwright Marina Tsvetaeva. The author of the performance, Danijela Zajc, tries to actualize and digest the difficult life of Cvetaeva, burdened by the spirit of wartime, migration and poverty.

The performance tries to weave feelings, facts, actions, stories, poetry, tragedy and much more through movement on aerial ropes, vertical
dance, poetry and performance.

Danijela Zajc (1985), has a university degree in pedagogy and sociology of culture. She is working as a performer, pedagogue, producer, and technician. Her interest is in various movements (floor and aerial) and mixing performing expression with contemporary circus and performance.

Danijela is co-founder of the circus training and performing space Cirkusarna NaokRog, where she did conduct regular aerial silk workshops and organized a cycle of DIY cabarets: Feminism is not a joke! She is a pedagogue for aerials and floor movement and she teaches 4 different groups. In 2021 she formed circus training and residence space Stena. She is a co-founder of Feminist Choir Z’borke, co-founder of Reciklart – an artistic festival of recycling and DIY, and co-founder of Marmelada – an artistic laboratory for youth. Founder of circus retreat / intensive weekend in Bovec, Slovenia called On the Head into the Sky.

Her interests are focused on engaged circus arts, contemporary dance, performance, and theater of the oppressed in connection with feminism, ecology, and other socially engaged topics.
