Weird Films: Queer Landscapes of Body and Memory The International Feminist and Queer Festival Red Dawns returns to the Slovenian Cinematheque on 27 February with a film programme, consisting of two sets of DIY short queer feminist films from all around the world – from Brazil, Uruguay, the USA and Australia to France, Spain and Belgium. They foreground the topics of eroticism, identity, belonging, pleasure, subversion of masculinity, celebration of trans and queer bodies, kink aesthetics, fetishes and decolonial views on sexuality, the environment and the body. These are films that, through poetic forms, analog formats, experimental approaches and political sharpness, do not teach, but transform – aurally, sensually, affectively. This is a rare opportunity in Slovenia to experience film views on the big screen that perceive things differently – they move away from the normative logic of storytelling, crossing the boundaries between the real and the imaginary, between desire and memory, between the body and the landscape. The programme in the Slovenian Cinemateque is part of the broader film segment of the Red Dawns festival, which has been taking place at two venues for the fourth year in a row. This year, with a novelty: the programme in the Tiffany Club will for the first time be completely dedicated to queer feminist pornography – an explicit, direct, bodily, but still intimate-political response to the dominance of mainstream representations of sexuality. Slovenian Cinemateque = sensual-erotic, experimental and political DIY film forms Tiffany Club = explicit program of DIY queer feminist porn films Why attend? Because these films do not reproduce the world, but rather reimagine it – from the edge, from the body, from the crack of time. Because the camera here does not control, but rather participates. Because eroticism is not separated from politics. And because art is not – and never has been – neutral.
