Nominate statements for the Thorny Thistle!

The Red Dawns collective and the Spol.si editorial team invite you to nominate this year’s most sexist statements and to eliminate sexism from our media!*

Have you recently read something so sexually unfair that it made your eyes burn? March is approaching and with it, the granting of the Anti-award for the most sexist statement of the year – the Thorny Thistle!

There are only a few days left for nominations!

You can nominate statements by choosing ‘suggest a statement’ from the menu on the website of the Thorny Thistle Awards, where you quote the statement, the person who made the statement, indicate the source and, if you feel inspired, write down the justification as to why this statement is sexist.

Statements can be nominated until 11 February 2026, via the online form https://bodeca-neza.spol.si/

The online portal spol.si is an autonomous, independent and non-party media outlet, focused on gender-related topics. It responds promptly and analytically to gender inequalities, the phenomena of sexism and the reproduction of stereotypes in various social fields (in politics, media, art, (pop) culture, science, etc.). In doing so, it strives to cover various content areas, from the division of labour in the household, through political representation and segregation in the labour market, to violence in the private sphere, exploitation in prostitution, sexism in the media, the functioning of gender roles, etc. It pays special attention to thematising, analysing and problematising knowledge about men and masculinity, women and femininity and other genders. It addresses gender-related issues within the framework of current social, political and economic conditions in Slovenia and the world, in relation to age, race, nationality, religion, social status and sexual orientation, taking into account that the sources of inequality are intertwined and complementary.
