PROGRAM DAY III Sunday, 9 March 2025, at 8 pm Urška Medved: Oh, my Dear, Spinning Wheel…
Oh, my Dear, Spinning Wheel… is a performative work by Urška Medved. The work was created as part of an exploration of contemporary ways of working and acting for women. It is a depiction and search for balance in a world where Too Normal is. It is a manifestation of spinning; spinning in a circle, spinning thoughts, spinning a spinning wheel, spinning an exercise bike. In English, the word “spinning” has several meanings, it is a trademarked term for exercise cycling, which is a popular guided practice in fitness studios, supported by fast music, often also virtual worlds, so that it “goes by quickly”. At the same time, “spinning” refers to the traditional manual practice of extracting threads from wool or linen fibers, meditative and long-lasting. It is an exploration of the mixed feeling of rushing and at the same time staying in place. In her work, the author explores themes of different poles; preoccupation, meditation of duration, and passing. Urška Medved (1996) is based in Gothenburg, where she is completing her university master’s degree program in Contemporary Performative Arts, as part of which she created an independent performative installation “The Land of Bees – the paradoxicalitz of absence and the execution of vacations” on a farm in Skredsviks Hede. She began her performance journey at the early age of four in the Qulenium Cultural Society under the watchful eye of Saša Lončar. She has created several solo and group works and toured with them on Slovenian and foreign (non)stages. She graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, majoring in textile and clothing design. With her work Home Sweet Home, she presented herself at the Olga Birkefelts Young Artists Competition in Bengsforsh and received first prize. In 2019, she participated in the international RICF festival in Delhi. In 2020, she had her first solo exhibition Follows at Medprostor in Kranj, which was later presented at the Lotny Binaly festival in Lithuania and in 2022 at the 4th YTAT – Young textile art Triennial in Lodz. In 2021, she had a solo exhibition at the BIEN21 textile biennial in Kranj. Since 2023, she has been part of the Gentle Pain trio.
