The Red Dawns Film Program 2025: a kaleidoscope of feminist representations of queer and F*LINTA experiences
Join us for the International Feminist and Queer Festival Red Dawns film program, where a diverse selection of genres and aesthetics explores societal expectations around sexuality, gender identities, and relationships—through the lived experiences of F*LINTA individuals. From queer vampire codes to raw documentary storytelling – the first program takes us into the world of mysterious gazes with Olga’s Eyes, while There Is Not Much We Can Do unflinchingly exposes societal neglect of women’s (reproductive) health. A wild space odyssey and a journey into pleasure – the second program invites us on a mind-bending adventure with The Lesbian Alien Fisting Operetta on Venus, opening up conversations on sexual freedom. Genderfluid takes a poetic deep dive into gender fluidity, while A Certain Kind documents the ethics of pornography production. What do these films offer? PROGRAMME I On view from 6 – 7 pm
Shame, Hadi Moussally, Lebanon, 2024, DCP, color, ap, 4’27” In the 19th century, in the Levant region, Salma Zahore, along with her parents and neighbors, participated in a photoshoot using a long exposure technique. At the end of it, Salma decided to take off her coat, revealing her body. Unaware of the chaos this gesture could cause within her circle, she did not know it could lead to shame (عيب).
A Water-Filled Shell, Chudi Zhang, USA, 2024, DCP, color, ap, 11’ Two Queer women develop an intimate and incredibly candid relationship through BDSM, revealing body traumas that are difficult to express in everyday contexts. It’s a non-sexual BDSM activity without “othering” women participants.
Olga’s Eyes, Sarah Carlot Jaber, Belgium, 2023, DCP, black and white, ap, 22’ Olga, a music-loving octogenarian, is tired of killing humans. Could it be the vampire blues? For her daughter Simone, she’s just being picky! Olga is placed in a care home where she can deal with those “who have one foot in the grave”…
There Is Not Much We Can Do, Erica Monde, UK, 2022, DCP, color, ap, 19’15” An ecofeminist meditation on the body, biology, care and control, There’s Not Much We Can Do prompts us to question the very things we consider “natural” in the first place.

The Princess and the Peacock, Daniel Baker-Wells, Germany, 2024, DCP, color, ap, 13’22” Mona is a 22 year old trans girl from a small village in France. She puts needles attached to peacock feathers in her skin, under bright lights, late at night. She bleeds, half naked, in front of small crowds of people. Sometimes they faint whilst watching her. Why would she do this? How did she learn to do it? And why would someone want to watch?
