ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS:

Ana Cergol Paradiž is an assistant professor at the Department of History of the University of Ljubljana. She participated in various research projects, including the ERC project EIRENE: Post-war transitions in gendered perspective: the case of North-Eastern (leader Prof. Dr. Marta Verginella). She is currently leading the project Motherhood and Reproductive Politics in the 19th and 20th Centuries, funded by ARRS. She also received a Marie Curie postdoctoral scholarship for a project called RETROCHILD, which she will carry out at the University of Copenhagen. She is the author of several scientific articles and of two monographs (Eugenics in Slovenia, and The White Plague: illegal abortions and declining birth rates in Slovenia in the period between the two Wars).

Katja Čičigoj is an assistant at the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Klagenfurt, where she does research and lectures. She is finishing her doctoral dissertation in feminist philosophy at the University of Paderborn. She co-edited the thematic issues of Dialogi magazine “Why feminism today?” (2017) and “Gender and Violence” (2019). In 2014, she co-founded and until 2021 also co-led the feminist reading group Delfinka (under the auspices of KUD Anarhiv). In addition to several articles on feminism and critical theory, she also translated Shulamith Firestone’s book Dialectics of Gender – Defense of the Feminist Revolution (Publisher *cf., 2019) and wrote an accompanying study for it, and she is currently preparing a scientific edition of the said work in English with a colleague. She is also the editor of the forthcoming special issue of the magazine Feminist Encounters on feminist techno-imaginaries and the collection on Shulamith Firestone and feminist reproductive utopias, which will be published next year by Založba *cf.

Ana Makuc is a comparativist and English graduate with a Ph.D. in women’s and gender studies from the University of Lancaster (Great Britain). Between 2014 and 2019, she co-created the International Feminist and Queer Festival Red Dawns. Between 2016 and 2020, she was self-employed in culture as a writer and translator. In 2016, she received the Veronika Award for the poetry collection of the year, namely for her debut novel Ljubica by Roland Barthes (2015, Fractal, KUD Apokalipsa). Her poetry, translations of fiction and humanities, and scholarly articles in the field of feminist literary studies have been published in numerous magazines and books. In 2022, her translation of bell hooks’ book Feminism is for Everyone: Passionate Politics was published by the Sophia publishing house.

Tea Hvala holds a BA in Comparative Literature and Sociology of Culture and a MA in Gender Anthropology. She is self-employed in culture as an art critic and writer, but also devotes herself to editorial work and translation. She has published numerous essays, professional articles, educational materials, and zines, and in co-authorship with Špela Oberstar, also published a children’s book, Skrivna hožilnica (Skrivnost Publishing House, 2017). In 2021, for the City of Women, she edited the tourist guide Along the Way: 25 Trips through the History of Women. In 2023, she edited the second edition of Virginia Woolf’s essay A Room of One’s Own (Publisher *cf.) and the manual How to use art to explore power relations between the Sexes? (City of Women). Among other things, she translated Michelle Tea’s novel Valencia (Škuc, 2010) and Silvia Federici’s historical study Caliban and the Witch (Sophia Publishing House, 2019).
