Patriarchy kills! Let’s throw patriarchy into the dustbin of history!

On International Women’s Day, March 8, we protest. Against the status quo. Against patriarchy. Because it’s unbearable.
Patriarchy is a social structure in which men dominate women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and children. The social privilege of men manifests itself through various forms of exploitation, violence, humiliation, body control and the perception of women as property. But with private property, the owner can do anything. He might as well kill her.

Although we live in a society in which everyone is supposed to be equal – this is supposed to be guaranteed by the constitution, legislation and various institutions – the reality is strongly interwoven with inequality. This is manifested in the normalization of sexual violence, sexism and the fact that women’s voices are not heard in the public space to the same extent as men’s voices. Patriarchy is most clearly expressed through violence that results in the deaths of women.

Femicides are murders or killings of women, just because they are women. Femicides are sexualized murderous violence. Most often, femicides are the result of heterosexual intimate partner violence. They most often occur during the process, when the victim of femicide tries to leave the violent perpetrator, leave him and break the intimate partner relationship.

Last year, 12 femicides were recorded in Slovenia. This year there have already been 2. Each number means one extinguished life of a woman. Each one is too much.

On this year’s International Women’s Day, March 8, 2023, we will therefore gather at the Congress Square in Ljubljana at 4:00 p.m.
We will remember the murdered. We will point out that they were killed by the patriarchy. We will demand that the patriarchy be confronted, we will demand measures from the competent institutions, and from society that it no longer tolerates sexual violence!
