Another feminist year has passed and it is once again time for the bodeča neža (thistle) award ceremony. This dishonourable title can befall on anyone who publicly attacks, degrades and offends others on the basis of one’s gender identity, gender expression and/or sexual orientation. Especially persons who are active in publicly exposed areas, such as politics, science, (pop)culture, art and media, have big responsibility for co-creation of an open, plural and tolerant society. Their position gives them the privilege to co-shape public opinion. If they are spreading sexist viewpoints and ideas, they are normalising hate speech and legitimising discrimination from a position of power, which is in opposition to the strivings for the society of equal opportunities. The Bodeča neža award ceremony is a result of the collaboration between Red Dawns collective and the editorial board of the online portal site spol.si. Of course, we cannot exclude the interested public, who can participate in the voting process at several different levels. Anyone who notices a sexist statement can report it at http://bodeca-neza.spol.si/. A working group, composed of the editorial board of spol.si and collective of Red Dawns decides which nominated statements shall be published The “winning” statement will be chosen by the audience of the award ceremony hosted by Fem TV collective in Club Gromka. Those who will attend the event will have the chance to vote for their “favorite” amongst 5 chosen statements.
CONCERT DAWNS The Bodeče žeja award ceremony is followed by Concert Dawns. This time, Eva Mulej and Tine Vrabič will be on stage for the premiere in this combination with a completely fresh project in which they create atmospheric sound interweaves through strong dramaturgy. In Ljubljana, we also caught the researcher of sonic meditations, Mojca Zupančič, who will take us into the world of slowly deconstructed melodies embedded in Euclidean rhythms. ******************************* ******************************* About the Thistle (bodeča neža) award More about the Thistle award through http://bodeca-neza.spol.si Online voting for five nominees through http://bodeca-neza.spol.si/glasovanje ******************************* Fem TV is a collective that performs TV shows and news show parodies as well as critiques the social narratives on gender and sexuality. Its performances take a play on traditional as well as contemporary theatre practice. They touch every form of expression from burlesque, cabaret, varieté, performance, video and music as well as improv. “Tea Hvala speaks of Fem TV in her essay Working on Gender, New Burlesque and Cabaret in Ljubljana and she points out the intentional unprofessionalism of the performers and the humour as the most important tools for politicizing overlooked topics. The trash aesthetics of Fem TV 3.0 is not just in its fille rouge but also in the stance it takes on the media’s misrepresentation of reality with the emphasis on criticizing the distorted image of women’s bodies and their role as objects of the beauty industry as it openly perpetuates the patriarchy.” (source: MMC) ******************************* Mojca Zupančič is a pianist, composer and multimedia artist, currently based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. https://www.instagram.com/m_ojca/?fbclid=IwAR03r7Z13AEgY8e_Wli3SEC6jw_nWO4KALTVrQ9DfNP7rTz5gMzryvCZRUM ******************************* In their first joint project, Eva Mulej and Tine Vrabič combine their approaches to sound research. They create unusual sounds and cinematic atmospheres by recording various instruments (flute, walih, electric guitar, etc.), processing vocals and mixing analogue/digital. They strive to perform music through the narrative and dramaturgical structure. Eva Mulej is a vocalist, performer and sound artist, known for the experimental-ambient duo Lip Rouge with Karmen Ponikvar, and as part of the Čaralice project led by Zvezdana Novaković. Tine Vrabič has been working under the name Nitz for more than a decade, together with Urška Preis he forms one half of the experimental duo II/III, we also know him as the long-time program manager of the Ljubljana Klub K4, founder of the label and series AmbientSoup, part of the team CLSTRFNK (Evano, Nulla) and author the Senzorama show on Radio Student. https://www.instagram.com/avajardinforet/?hl=en https://www.instagram.com/tine_nitz/?hl=en ******************************* Info Organization: 24th International Feminist and Queer Festival Red Dawns Coproduction / co-organisation: Spol.si/ Association Vita Activa, Fem TV, Club Gromka Design of the poster and graphic design: Hanna Juta Kozar Contacts for media and press: Saša Nemec, rdece.zore@gmail.com Financial support: Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, City of Ljubljana ******************************* *******************************
