Exhibition opening – Nurlama Vidrih: (Un)heard We invite you to the opening of Nurlama Vidrih’s exhibition (Un)heard, which will be held on Friday, 6th March at 6 p.m. at Nočna izložba Pešak, ACC Metelkova mesto. ***************** The artist Nurlama Vidrih will present the (Un)heard, which in(directly) connects and intertwines with the overall visual design for this year’s Red Dawns feminist and queer festival. The large-scale project consists of three parts: an exhibition, a performance and a zine. It takes inspiration in the stories of five LGBTIQ + people who, at some point in time, have come to know and deeply connect on a personal level. They were connected by similar experiences of life and emotional turmoil; growing up in a homo, bi-, lesbian-, trans-, inter-, queer- phobic world, coping with peer violence, resulting in mental health issues, feelings of (not) belonging, and homelessness. Their discussions revolved around topics of (self) acceptance, (in) security, safer spaces, revelations, discriminations based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and the importance of mutual support and solidarity within the (feminist) LGBTIQ + community. Last but not least, their meeting, which sparked many artistic ideas, was made possible by the aforementioned community. The exhibition at the Nočna izložba Pešak is intended as the first part of the whole project – a visual depiction of five individuals and their stories. Part of it consists of visually shown sections, fragments of common stories, intended to empower the participants and depict them in the way they see themselves. This is also a key focus of the project, which gives voice to those marginalized. This project, like most other feminist practices, demonstrates the importance of exposing different personal circumstances to the public and we still need to call out the feminist motto “personal is political”.

The exhibition will be open until 26. 4. 2020 Co-organization/Coproduction: Nočna izložba Pešak and Cirkusarna NaokROG
