ÖFA: I Ass Jazz ÖFA Kollektivitet (Sweden): I Ass Jazz You become so horny that you want to cry. Your eyes are burning but you can’t stop smiling. You fall in love and you want to kill somebody. You want to join in. You believe you’re worth something. You believe that everything is possible now. EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE NOW! You’re feeling safe but you know you’re experiencing something dangerous. You can’t tell your mother about it but perhaps she’s sitting next to you. It’s life and death. We don’t do hatred or contempt, we use love as a weapon. The dance performance I Ass Jazz is inspired by musicals, MTV, magicians, cabarét, rabbits and samba with feathers. It questions the norms of the show dance genre while letting go and giving in to the very same. It plays with clichés yet stays close to the eye of the storm. Choreographer Amanda Apetrea together with Emma Tolander and Lisen Rosell challenge the female ideals reproduced within dance and popular culture without betraying the joy, pride and confidence they’ve always felt dancing. All three performers are members of the Swedish, feminist performance collective ÖFA-kollektivet. The collective, established in 2003, acts as a personal support and discussion group, as well as a creative and professional network for its 22 members, such as professional dancers, journalists, teachers, social workers and musicians.
