Anti-gender movement in Hungary Implications for the feminist and LGBTIQA+ progressive left
The anti-gender movement has spread throughout Europe, more prominently in Hungary. These movements use similar tactics, both in Europe and around the world – their protagonists fight the right to abortion, sex education in schools, gender studies at universities, lesbian and gay marriages and their right to adopt children and the rights of transgender people. In the larger community, they abuse fear and paranoia with emotionally charged vocabulary, taking over and manipulating the discourse of human rights, science and leftist tactics.
In the presentation, you will learn about the attacks of the Hungarian anti-gender movement and how it affects LGBTIQA+ and the feminist community, NGOs, gender studies and civil society in Budapest and Hungary. The talk will also be about the actual and possible counter-strategies employed by the progressive left.
